Clearing the SAT exam well before graduation from the high school is one of the important aspects of college applications. As the SAT test score is valid for 5 years from the exam date, most students take the test in grade 11 and/or 12, and apply for the appropriate universities during final year of graduation, so that they can join immediately without taking a year gap.

After Clearing the SAT Exam
As soon as students clear the SAT Exam, this is what typically happens:
1. Receive Your Digital SAT Test Scores
After completing the digital SAT Test, the College Board releases test scores within two weeks from the exam dates. As digital SAT exam has been divided into two parts: English – reading and writing, and math. Each section has scored separately and the maximum score per section is 800, that is a student can score a maximum of 800 in English and 800 in math and total combined score for digital SAT is 1600. For example, if student scores 730 in English reading and writing and 780 in math, then combined score will be 730 + 780 = 1510 out of 1600.
Along with the test score, college board also provides percentile score, which states where you stand among all the students who took digital SAT exam globally at the same time.
2. Shortlist Colleges
As soon you get your digital SAT score, you can start listing the colleges of your interest based on your SAT test score, academic profile, courses, location, and course fee etc. You can create a list of colleges where you are eligible to apply.
3. Prepare necessary documents for the Application
Alongside your SAT exam score, colleges may require additional documents from the applicants. You should keep the following documents ready before applying for the colleges
- Letter of Recommendation
- Personal statements/Essays
- Extracurricular Activity Records
- Transcripts
4. Submit your Applications to Colleges
Once you are ready with SAT exam score, required documents, and preferred college list, next step is to apply for admission. With your permission, College Board can send your scores directly to the colleges of your interest which you select during the registration for the exam. For that student needs select an option “Allow College Board to send my scores” while registering for the exam.
You can also send your scores directly using a platform like the Common Application portals or you can visit directly to individual college portal to submit your applications.
5. Apply for Scholarships and Financial Aid
Many students and parents face a common issue, that is college fee, by considering this requirement, many colleges offer Scholarships and Financial aid to the students. A good SAT score may qualify you for merit-based scholarships or scholarships under sports quota. Additionally, you can also complete financial aid applications such as FAFSA for U.S. colleges.
6. Attend College Interviews
As a part of admission process, most of the colleges conducts a personal interview before finalizing student applications. Prepare well to showcase your academic achievements and personality
7. Receive Admission Decisions and Accept Admission Offers
Once the required documents are submitted and the personal interview gets over, colleges will review your application and send acceptance, rejection, or waitlist notifications. Once you receive offers, decide on the best-fit college based on factors like reputation, courses, affordability, and location.
