Advance Placement abbreviated as AP is one of the finest exams administered by the College Board. AP test is mainly designed for high school students to assess knowledge and skills in specific subjects of interest. AP exams are usually conducted once in a year that is first and second week in the month of May every year.
The purpose of taking the AP Exam is to increase a chance of university acceptance for undergraduate programs in the United States of America and other countries around the world.
There are nearly 75 countries accept AP test score as one of the important aspects of admission to the universities.
If a student scores well in the AP tests, he/she can apply for world’s top universities along with scholarship opportunity.
Registering for the AP exam is a challenging as compare to other completive exams such as SAT and ACT. Registration for the test should be done through school or school coordinator.

There are two ways to register for the AP Test
- Registration through a school Coordinator
- Self-registration for the AP Test
Registration through school Coordinator
In case your school is affiliated to college Board and offers AP courses then the school coordinator will definitely approach you asking for the AP test registration. In this case, student needs to provide requested documents such as photo, Emirates Id etc. to the school or school coordinator and they will take care of everything. This is the most convenient and easiest way to register for the AP Exams.
Self-registration for the AP Test
College Board given flexibility to register for the AP exams even though the school does not offer AP subjects. Yes, that’s right, in the case parents and students cannot order AP Exams directly, they need to register as either homeschooled independent study, attend virtual schools, or attend schools that don’t administer AP Exams will need to find a school where they can test. The AP Program encourages AP coordinators to help these students.
Homeschooled students and students whose schools don’t offer AP subjects need to do the following as early in the school year as possible:
- Use the AP Course Ledger to look up nearby schools where they might be able to test.

- Contact the schools and ask to speak with the AP coordinator to see if one of them can arrange testing. Students should remember that schools may have their own local deadlines and policies regarding testing outside students.
AP Exam Ordering Deadline
Homeschooled student or a student whose school doesn’t administer AP Exam(s) needs to contact the school coordinator before the November ordering deadline, coordinator can add them to their exam order. If you reach coordinator after November 15 because you couldn’t find a school before the fall ordering deadline to order and administer their 2025 AP Exam(s), AP coordinators can contact AP Services for Educators no later than March 14 to request the late order fee be waived—this applies only for homeschooled students and students whose school doesn’t administer the AP Exam(s) they’re planning to take. These students must be included in your exam order by March 14.
